Detective! Knight Scoop is a long-running Kansai variety show in which viewers send in odd little problems and a team of "detectives" (comedians) investigates. This request came from a 25-year-old man in Hyogo Prefecture.
His problem: he cannot beat his wife's grandmother at table tennis. She took the sport up seriously at 43, keeps a table at home, and is now 74. Six years ago he played her, confident as a former high-school baseball player with good reflexes and stamina, and was thoroughly flattened. She even told him he didn't need a proper racket or shoes to take him on. He would like the show to train him well enough to win and make her say "gyafun," an old-fashioned yelp of defeat.
It does not end the way he hoped. Most of what viewers wrote about is how warm it all turned out anyway.
