51 Screws on a Highway Rest Stop Floor. This Stranger Picked Up Every Single One.

A box of metal screws got run over in a service area parking lot. Someone with no obligation cleaned up every last one.

What's going on

Service areas (サービスエリア, or "SA") are full-service rest stops along Japan's expressways — the kind with food courts, gas stations, and restrooms. A driver who pulled into one recently spotted something alarming in the parking area: dozens of metal screws scattered across the pavement. Apparently a brand-new box had been dropped, a car ran over it, and the screws went everywhere.

The driver — who goes by @KENSTV2 — had absolutely no obligation to do anything about it. But they got down and started picking up screws one by one. Final count: 51, from what was likely a 50-count box. They brought them all to the service area's information desk.

The stakes aren't trivial. On a Japanese expressway where speeds can reach 120 km/h, a single screw punching through a tire can trigger a blowout with catastrophic consequences. The response online was immediate and grateful.

Holy sh*t😭😭 Found screws scattered all over the highway service area, absolutely terrifying😭😭😭 Picked up everything I could find and turned them in at the info desk🙇 There should’ve been about 50 in the box and I got 51, so I think we’re good!? Praying nobody ran over any of them😭😭
That’s terrifying😱😱

It was so scary😭 Just thinking about what could happen if a tire blew out on the highway💦
Yikes!😱
And now this is something I have to watch out for too (‘A`)
That’s sabotage😱
Dangerous for both people and cars, it’s terrifying💧
What even is this😅 Scary posts just keep flooding my timeline. Today’s biorhythm must be in the gutter… If you ran over these you could easily be out ¥40,000 in tire repairs, right? (roughly $260 USD)
Probably fell off some contractor’s van

Yeah, it really is incredibly dangerous😭
Hard not to wonder how this even happened… Thank you both so much for picking them up😊

Seriously, way too dangerous💦 Just thinking about a blowout on the highway is terrifying😭 Looks like someone dropped a whole brand-new box and a car ran over it, sending screws flying everywhere💦 The box is totally crushed…
Must’ve dropped off a contractor’s truck. What a terrifyingly dangerous thing to lose.
You got 51 out of a 50-count box!? Perfect score & great job👍!!

Screws are sold by weight, so a “50-count” box is usually packed with 51 or 52 just to make sure the weight clears the minimum☺️
Good deed👍

Just glad if it kept anyone else out of trouble🙇✨
I didn’t drop them, but… thank you😭
So this is Japan’s lost-and-found game at level 100… They didn’t even drop them, and picking up 51 screws one by one must’ve taken forever…
And of course right in the tire lane, naturally😕 At least it wasn’t nighttime😊 I’m pretty sure I would’ve missed some😅 Great job👍
Props for even spotting them all
Every single screw they picked up is a car that didn’t get a blowout… Gives me chills thinking about hitting one of these on a road trip…
For basically any brand, a 50-count box means exactly 50 or 51 at the absolute most, so you almost certainly got them all (speaking with the confidence of someone who works at a screw shop). Well done.
If one of these bounced up and hit a motorcyclist, that could literally kill them. This person didn’t just save cars — they saved lives. An actual hero.
Absolute legend for picking those up. Seriously, thank you.
All the best to you!
Hope good things come their way.
Wishing nothing but good things for this person🥺👏👏👏🫶

My take

Screws on a highway are genuinely terrifying, and I really do wish people were more careful. But there's something quietly warming about knowing someone out there just stopped and took care of it — no job title, no obligation, just a person doing the right thing.
