What's going on
A driver in Japan set a cup of pudding down in their car's drink holder for a moment. It was a Jersey milk pudding from OHAYO, a dairy brand sold in convenience stores and supermarkets across the country. The cup slid in, sat flush with the rim, and stayed there. There was nothing left to grab.
The photo of the pudding lid sitting neatly in the dashboard drew plenty of advice. Some of it was practical, involving tape and the label sticker. Some of it suggested eating the pudding where it was. Some of it went bigger.
Japanese has a word for this kind of accident: "Cinderella fit," used when an object turns out to fit perfectly into a space it was never designed for, like Cinderella's foot and the glass slipper. It's usually a happy discovery. This time, less so.

Ehh… a pudding was placed in a car’s drink holder, and now it won’t come out…
Now this, you see, is a most peculiar case.
Ordinarily, one buys pudding in order to eat it. And yet the culprit went out of their way to put it in the car’s drink holder.
In other words, the culprit may have believed that pudding is a beverage. (Written in the drawling style of Ninzaburo Furuhata, a Columbo-like detective from a classic Japanese TV drama.)

Yeah, packing tape is probably the way…
Also, come to think of it, drink holders don’t need to be perfect circles. Given accidents like this, which are rare yet happen all the time, maybe they should put a bump or a notch somewhere around the edge.
